Welcome to the Village of Canaseraga!
Canaseraga is a Village of Allegany County, New York, US. The name is derived from the creek that flows past the Village, which is a Seneca term for “lying among milkweeds” or “slippery elms.” The Village lies in the Town of Burns at the junction of NYS Route 70 and County Route 13.
The Village Park located at 25 Bennett Street has kitchen facilities and is available for parties, reunions, etc. Call 607-545-8963 to make a reservation. The cost is $50 for village residents, $75 for non-residents.
Canaseraga boasts of having its own Fire Company and Ambulance service. We have several churches. Canaseraga is close to Swain Ski Center, Dansville and Hornell Airports, and is an easy one-hour commute to Rochester. Canaseraga has three eateries, a mini mart, grocery store, bar, American Legion, and a funeral home. Several local residents produce maple syrup. Canaseraga has a central school, a public library, and two cemeteries. The Village provides public water and sewer, which is billed quarterly.
Some local activities are the Memorial Day Parade, September Fall Festival (www.canaseragafestival.com), Village Summer Recreation in the park, and a diverse Library Summer Program at the park.
An item of historical interest - Canaseraga has the oldest Jail in Allegany County. It is on Main Street at the southeast corner of the cemetery (across form the Legion).
